When you look at something you love to do, do your fingers itch? It’s an undeniable, subconscious twitch that animates your limbs as if they have bypassed your conscious brain in a direct connection between muse and muscle memory. It is electricity and life. This painting was calling to us before we began. The subject is a hidden gem outside of Fredericksburg, Texas; Trois Estates across from Enchanted Rock. Artist Charles Trois and his wife Rebecca created a small fantastical village - a wonderland of buildings. From the Italian Chapel with a subterranean grotto to the western saloon and the largest collection of pop guns in the world; each building is unfettered by traditional design and reason. This scene was almost pulsating, reflecting the heat and color from the large, pink granite dome across the way. As we painted, that electric motion took over our hands and the painting took its form fast and haptic, as if wanting to vibrate with life as our fingers and brushes set it free. -K
