Week 153

What do you think of AI? Do you approach it with caution, or do you dive in wide-eyed? Laert experimented with AI to create an image we could use as a reference picture. It was bizarre to see the computer generate gorgeous digital works instantaneously. It was humbling and worrying. It was awe-inspiring and terrifying. We chose one that had a Monet feel to it, as we have used his palette and style together for these quickies before.

Once we left the computer, it was just him and I. We locked eyes and began to work quickly. Impressionistic painting on a thick wood panel is always enjoyable, as it provides a stable surface where we can both create and contribute. This one kept us squinting constantly, trying to maintain the looseness and movement. As we neared the end, adding additional layers with a palette knife, scraping away and building up thickly, an ephemeral notion took hold of both of us. Together we are so much more. He is the risk-taker; I am the steadiness. Each of us sees things with a different eye. Even as we used Artificial Intelligence as a muse, the ability to see and place color and strokes is distinctly human.

Our team of two will always be more. -K
